This is an example of a fun technique I learned from a master cake decorator from Singapore. It’s very easy, but it makes a world of difference when making flowers. A lot of grocery store cake designs contain roses, including their princess cakes. Don’t get me wrong, they look adorable and are bound to please your little one, but one little trick can easily elevate the look of a cake.
Flowers in nature have several different colors in their petals, some very obvious, and some very subtle. There are actually a few different ways to get different tones out of your piping bag. I prefer dumping 2 different colors in the same piping bag and seeing what comes out. There’s also applying food coloring to the piping bag directly and airbrush. It’s fun to experiment with different colors and techniques. There was no art charge on this cake as it was a bit of an experiment, but it turned out to be more time consuming then I originally anticipated.
