This was a last minute design for an absolutly gorgeous reception. I don’t make it many locations where my cakes are displayed, but I must admit, the set up was beautiful. The colors for this cake were taupe and ivory. After a bit of research, I discovered taupe is an umbrella term for a wide range of grayish browns. Luckily, the bride emailed me a photo, and I tried to make my shade of taupe in the general range of the gray in the photo.
This design is called a lace design with stencil detail. This design works best on fondant, but this cake is buttercream detail on buttercream icing. The couple chose 3 different flavors of cake: Strawberry Shortcake, White Chocolate Almond Raspberry, and Tiramisu. All the cakes are iced in almond buttercream.
This cake took a lot of work, much of it spent in the cooler due to summer heat, and I’m really pleased with the way it came out. Plus, since the Strawberry shortcake and the Tiramisu are 2 of my most popular signature cakes, I know it tasted great, too.
