Fruit and Cream is by far our most popular flavor of wedding cake, and this cake is the first one I’ve ever made that really showcases what makes it a favorite. Originally, the bride and groom opted for gumpaste flowers, but changed their mind a week before the big day.
The original design with the flowers used to be a decoration kit you could order from DecoPac, but it was discontinued almost a year ago. However, I kept a photo of it in my wedding book because I really liked the general layout of the decorations and the scroll work. This photo will be replacing that design. I especially love the fresh fruit. It’s unfortunate that the fresh fruit doesn’t stack as high as flowers because of the lack of wire anchors, but overall, I think it makes for a much more tasty and natural design. A refreshing change, if you will.
I’ve never been asked to make a plaque topper for a cake. All other customers have asked for it to be left out. The gumpaste plaque in the original design was too big for this cake, so I made my own out of white chocolate, a far more delicious alternative.
