Not to be confused with a purse cake because we were trying to maximize cake, minimize cost, and fondant was not an option.
This customer was having a very special 40th birthday and wanted pink, black, and silver. Originally she thought about doing a black clutch, but that would turn everyone’s mouthes black, which is a party faux pas to say the least. There are plenty of gorgeous fondant cake purses in this world, so please keep in mind this is buttercream with bits of chocolate decor detail.
The zebra print was inspired by a the napkin the customer left me, which was a good thing because it tuned out I don’t know what zebra print looks like off the top of my head. I got this particular color of pink off of the napkin, too. The hardest part was the cross hatching. On a fondant cake the texture is put on when the fondant is flat, before it’s put onto the cake. Some of the lines don’t quite match up, but my goal was to give you the gist of a high end purse texture. I embellished the design with tiny silver dragees and added a metallic spray to the chocolate decor.
